Every year we celebrate World Environment day on June the 5th. This year the focus is on reducing the use of plastic bags and water bottles.
500 billion single use plastic bags are used world wide every year, 500 million plastic straws are used every day in the US alone!
My family already does some things to reduce plastic, we have glass 'keep cups' so we can take hot drinks with us in the car and use them to get takeaway drinks, we use reusable produce and carry bags at the supermarket, we use Tupperware to get meat from the butchers shop and have stainless steel drinking straws.
Three new things that my family and I could do to help save the planet are:
1. Buy wooden and metal toys instead of plastic ones.
2. Unwrap prewrapped vegetables (like cucumber) at the supermarket and leave it there so hopefully they stop buying prewrapped vegetables.
3. Take our own cutlery and plates to BBQ's incase people have disposable ones there.

ReplyDeleteThese are some awesome ideas! My big shift this year is no longer using plastic straws, and using metal straws instead!
It’s difficult finding non plastic toys! I have 7 children in my family and 5 of them have birthdays in summer! Purchasing toys that aren’t made from plastic is harder than you think! Almost all toys are made out of plastic!
What kind of toys do you recommend?
Keep up the great work!
