Billy don't be a hero

The song was written  British songwriters  Mitch Murray and Peter Callandar

It was sung by Paper Lace

Waiting to go and join the line

The soldier blues were trapped on a hillside
With battle raging all around

And bring us back some extra men
And Billys hand was up in a moment
Forgetten all the words she said, she said

And as Billy started to go ,she said keep your pretty head low

I heard his fiancee got a letter
That told how Billy died that day 
The letter said he was a hero
She should be proud he died that way
I heard she threw the letter away

    Hi Andrew!

    This is a great song, I really enjoyed listening to it on YouTube while I was reading the lyrics you wrote.
    It is such a cool story they tell and also very sad. I feel really sorry for Billy's fiancee! What about you?
    I also think it was really brave of Billy to volunteer like he did. I think things like that would have happened often in the war.

    Where did you hear this song? Do you parents have a Paper Lace album at home or does it play on the radio often?

    I think this is a great choice for a favourite song! I am interested to hear what you love about it!

    I have heaps of favourite songs but this was the one I listened to last. I like it because its about war.

      Hey Andrew,

      Yeah the story in the song was really cool! I think that's what I liked about it the most. It is really hard trying to pick one favourite song aye? I have too many to choose from!
      Do you have a favourite band/artist?
