Charles Upham was born in 1908. He was New Zealand's best soldier ever and earned the Victoria Cross two times! His first VC he earned for outstanding bravery and Gallantry at the battle of Crete in 1941 and he won his second one for lots of different things. He was captured by the Germans and tried to escape twice. Before the war he was a farmer in Canterbury and went back to it afterwards. He was 84 when he died in 1994.
Hi Andrew!
ReplyDeleteWow! Charles Upham sounds like a bit of a legend!
I can't believe he was awarded 2 VC's! I wonder if any other Kiwi's have done that?
He sounds like he must have been quite the character...I think its pretty impressive that he was even making escape attempts when he was taken prisoner!
What would you like to know about Charles Upham if you could ask him? I think I would like to hear his escape attempt stories.
This is really great work Andrew, you have done an awesome summary that has really good facts and information in it. I also like that you have added a picture of Charles Upham, it is cool to see who you are writing about.
Awesome job Andrew!
