I support logging in New Zealand because:
It is New Zealand's third biggest export money producer, bringing in $5 billion NZ dollars in 2018, this makes the country richer because that money is then spent around NZ.
The industry employs about 20,000 workers and that money that they earn supports them and their families. Those people buy stuff to live and the money they spend pays for other people eg. buying meat to eat at the butcher pays the butcher and his workers.
The wood can be used in New Zealand to build things eg. houses and if we use our own wood then the money is going to New Zealand not overseas.

Hi Andrew!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your honest opinion on logging - You have done a great job at sharing supporting points to your argument. I also like that you have added facts and figures into your argument, it makes it much stronger and does a greater job at persuading your audience!
That is so interesting that it is the third biggest export money producer! Do you know what percentage of the logging companies are New Zealand own or from overseas investors?
$5 billion dollars is certainly a lot of money being put back into (hopefully) New Zealand hands!
That is a lot of workers that would loose out if we decided to stop logging - Do you think that there might be a solution to this problem? Maybe a way around these workers loosing out?
I like that you have thought about the internal support system that happens when we invest in our own/local industries: "buying meat to eat at the butcher pays the butcher and his workers." I think this is an important thing to be aware of whenever you are putting money into something!
This is a really well-thoughtout argument Andrew, it is a very strong peice of persuasive writing - I really enjoyed reading it - Do you enjoy writing as a subject in school?
I am sure you are really great at it!
Nga mihi,
Ellee :)
Hi Ellee
ReplyDeleteI like writing a lot and at school it is fun learning new things and writing about them. I like to choose arguments that most other people don't choose.
