In America there used to be segregation (keeping people separate from each other) between black and white people. In 1955 Rosa Parks gained a lot of public attention to Martin Luther King Jr's cause by refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. She was arrested for breaking the law but she argued that it wasn't fair. On the day of her trial black people refused to use the buses and since they made up about 70% of the population in that area the buses made much less money that day. After 381 days of not using the buses the court ruled that Alabama's racial segregation law was unconstitutional and so the law was changed!

Hi again Andrew,
ReplyDeleteKa pai! This was a really well-written retelling of Rosa Park’s story.
Wow! I didn’t know it took 381 days before they actually changed the law! I am impressed with the amount of detail you have included in this post. I like that you used information such as the percentage of black population in the area that it occurred and the exact year that this happened too!
Do you think she did the right thing at the time? I think what she did was very courageous! I don’t think many people at the time would have stood up for herself like she did. What do you think?
I am looking forward to hearing back from you.
