Carbon Sinks Don't Stink

New Zealand's largest carbon sink is older forests in Fiordland, Westland, Otago and Southland which is interesting because before scientists figured this out they thought it was young forests that absorbed more carbon dioxide 'carbon uptake tends to slow as forests mature'.

If I could design a sink that could gather and then drain away foods that I don't like I would put yams and roast parsnip in it.

  1. Hello Andrew,
I am Vitaraag. I love the choices you said. I would put the same things in to. Maybe next time you could say why you put those things in the sink. Keep up the amazing work!

  2. Hello Andrew,
I agree with you putting those things in the carbon sink, because they sound unappetising in my opinion. You have done a very good job putting a description of what a carbon sink is and where a big one is located. On my blog, I had a gigantic list of things that I didn't like, and I suggest you go and visit it in your free time. Next time I would elaborate a bit more on what a carbon sink really is.

  3. Hi Andrew!

Thanks for the little bit of information on New Zealands largest carbon sink, it was really interesting to read - I didn't realise that the younger the forest the more carbon it tends to obsorb!

Wow, that's pretty impressive that you would only put two foods down your sink - you aren't fussy at all, you would be great to cook for! Are you allergic to anything?

I can't say I eat yams very often - When did you try them? Is it the taste or texture you don't like?

Oh, I don't mind parsnips though - My sister makes really nice parsnip chips! I also don't mind them roasted... Sorry Andrew, I think I would keep them. :)

Maybe these foods will grow on you one day?
When I was younger I didn't like roasted kumara, mushrooms and olives - now I like all three. I can't understand what I didn't like about them when I was younger... I am thinking it may have something to do with the maturing of your taste buds?

Thank you for sharing what you would you would throw down your sink Andrew - Awesome work!

    Nga mihi,
    Ellee :)

  4. No, I'm not allergic to anything. It's the taste of yams I don't like - everyone else in my family loves them.
