The Secretive Skink

Three good things about working as a DOC ranger are:
1. Protecting and restoring historic sights
2. Making and maintaining tracks, signs, huts and fences
3. Monitoring native wildlife, habitats and plants

Three bad things about working as a DOC ranger are:
1. Having to work evenings and weekends sometimes
2. May have to travel to attend meetings
3. Telling land owners they are not allowed to do things they want to

I would not like to work as a DOC ranger because I don't like 1080.

  1. Hi Andrew!

These are some great reasons for and against being a DOC worker. I like the though you have put into each comment highlighting different aspects of what it means to be a DOC worker.

I think I too would like the maintenance side of things, would be awesome being outdoors in such beautiful places of New Zealand as a part of your job.
Are there any wildlife or native plants in particular that you would like to work with?

That is a really great point about the 1080 as well, I don't like it either - Have you seen many protests about it in your community?

What job would you like to do when you are older Andrew?
I think last year you might have said you wanted to keep working with horses or racing horses - is that still the plan?

Great job with this activity Andrew - keep it up!
    Ellee :)
