SLJ - Week 3 Chose Your Own
The inventor I have chosen is Fionn Ferreira he is an 18 year old Irish boy from Western Cork. He isn't very famous but has invented a way to get all plastic out of the water. The way he did this was he invented a special type of oil and put it onto a vegetable (Light vegetables work best) then he places it into the ocean and the vegetable will draw in all the plastic then will get retrieved at a different place. When checked this method gets 87% +- 1.1 which is higher than filtering. If his method becomes more popular then this could save the ocean. He hopes to get this put onto boats so the plastic is carried out of the water.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading this post. I didn’t know who Fionn Ferreira was but I was definitely interested to know more after reading your post. I had a watch of the video you shared.
What a great invention he has created. I thought it was really cool watching him use the magnet in the water and seeing it collect all of the microplastics. If they are able to make this design even bigger, it would be fantastic to clean up big oceans. How did you find out about Fionn?
If you were to ever meet Fionn and could ask one question, what would it be?
