Concluding the Journey

The Activity I enjoyed the most was Defying the odds.

My least favorite activities were ones that I had to upload photos and take screen shots as my chromebook is away being fixed by insurance so I'm using Mum's stupid PC which I can't take screenshots with.I tried using Mum's phone to take screen shots and photos and then emailed them to myself but apparently no one else can see them although I can on this computer.

Three things I learned were:

  • Who BTS were (they are a Korean pop music band).
  • That the more carefully you observe something the more you see.
  • There are many famous people raising awareness for global warming.
One way the Summer Learning Journey could be improved upon would be to include more sport activities.

The dairy of Anne Frank

Dear Diary today I went to a Ed Sheeran in Halifax , England. I got to sit in the front row! The concert was amazing and after it was finished I had almost lost my voice. Right at the end he said whichever seat he drew out of a jar would get to meet him! Amazingly it was actually me! I could hardly believe what happened. I just sat there barely moving out of astonishment as I walked up I was so stunned. I had my guitar in my hand because I hadn't  thought to put it down he said lots of things and then we did a duet of I See Fire. It was so amazing.

The right to an Education

What happened last night the last thing I remember is watching England vs New Zealand in the rugby and England were winning then Owen Farrell got pushed over the line and ran into me by accident. Suddenly I wake up. I get up, why does everything look so different and why do I have heaps of England training shirts? I walk round. Why does everything look so different. As I am trying to look for a mirror I see an indoor pool and gym why is that here. When I finally find a mirror. I am Owen Farrell! Next minute a person walks into the room they say that I have to get to training, this can't be real. Surely. I am thrown a set of keys to and Audi R8. Next minute I wake up.

The World of Hip Hop

The Royal Family Dance Crew are pretty good. They weren't what I was expecting.
I don't have any idea of how they could improve, it's not really my type of dancing but for the people who enjoy hip hop they would be cool to go and see.
They had great timing, I liked how their long hair seemed to flick around/back and forth adding to the performances fast jerky movements. They flowed easily from fast and to the point to smooth, athletic and fluid.
I thought their pink and black costumes stood out well on stage and there was a big difference between the males in black with a little pink and the women in pink with a little black.
The blonde dancer in the middle is the one who stood out to me the most.

Top Secret Street Art

watchthisspace.org.nz   Christchurch Street Art

Some similarities are colours used, the same kind of shapes, broken up by black lines.

Some differences are one is writing and the other is not, one covers an entire building and the other just a section, one looks like it has been done for fun and the other to 'paint' building'.

Plot Points

If I were to make a movie I would call it Nothing.
It would be about a group of teenage boys (Jason, Roy, Shane, Marnus, Owen and Henry) who have their country invaded by a foreign enemy. They manage to escape and work to save their country.
They have an idea to steal and/or destroy the enemies weapons and supplies.
They target convoys for a start stealing weapons such as grenades and explosives then move their camp to a place 50 minutes hike from a huge base and plan their attack.
The movie ends just as they've blown up the training center, barracks and vehicle bay on their way to the bush a soldier faces them with a weapon held to Owen's head ordering them to stop.

K-Pop Heros

I don't mind BTS. But I would prefer it if I could understand the music. Pop is my favorite musical category but I only really like pop artists that make their own background music. I personally am not their biggest fan but I could handle hearing their music.

Some things my family and I do to stay healthy are:

  • We go to bed early enough to get a good nights sleep
  • We spend many hours outside most days
  • We mostly only drink water and milk
  • We eat mostly whole foods and prefer to buy organic when available
  • We grow and collect/harvest/hunt a lot of our food (vegetables, beef, mutton, venison, eggs and milk)

Printing Prosthetics

Modern prostheses can cost tens of thousands of dollars and kids quickly outgrow them so for most children a prosthetic is an impossible dream.
e-Nable are using 3D technology to print prostheses like hands, fingers and wrists and then giving them away for free!
They don't even pretend to look like real hands - they look like something Iron Man would have which is really cool.
They are on track to provide 6,000 prostheses in the next 2 years.

Overcoming Adversity

Last winter I hurt my Achilles tendon. I was playing 3 sports (Football, Rugby and Basketball) and I had to be really careful with my training and games so that I didn't let my team down. I went to the Physio and she taught me how to strap my leg and showed me some good stretches.

Everyday Heroes

5 ways to help the people affected by the fires in NSW are:

  • By getting people to sponsor school kids to have a working bee.
  • Doing a community garage sale.
  • Volunteers such as builders, fencers, machinery drivers etc. going over to help rebuild.
  • Make up packages of necessary things to send over.
  • Invite people to come on holiday here to get away from it all.

I Have A Dream

In America there used to be segregation (keeping people separate from each other) between black and white people. In 1955 Rosa Parks gained a lot of public attention to Martin Luther King Jr's cause by refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. She was arrested for breaking the law but she argued that it wasn't fair. On the day of her trial black people refused to use the buses and since they made up about 70% of the population in that area the buses made much less money that day. After 381 days of not using the buses the court ruled that Alabama's racial segregation law was unconstitutional and so the law was changed!

Dear Jacinda

I am writing to you today about something I believe is very important to our children's well being.
If we could get more sport programs in the NZ curriculum we would solve a wide range of issues such as:
1. Getting people outside more.
2. Allowing those children good at sports to have a better chance of competing on the world stage.
3. It would help with National obesity and type 2 diabetes freeing up money and space in our Healthcare system.
4. It would help reduce screen addiction which is becoming a big problem world wide.
5. It would help children to concentrate better on their academic studies.

I believe these points speak for themselves and would love you to take this letter into consideration.

Yours Faithfully

Swimming to Safety

Yusra and her sister escaped the Syrian war and went to find safety in Europe. They travelled through Lebanon to Turkey before traveling to Greece in an overcrowded dinghy.

Not long into the sea crossing, the boat’s engine failed.  Yusra, her sister and two others jumped into the waves and swam for three and a half hours in open water to stop their dinghy capsizing, saving the lives of 20 people.
A year later, Yusra’s courage, determination and strong swimming skills were recognized by the International Olympic Committee and she became a member of the first ever Refugee Olympic Team. Yusra competed at the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.
She aims to compete at the next Olympic Games. Yusra is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and works to alter global perceptions of refugees.

One question I would like answered is if men are often paid more because they have more spectators watching their sport and so more money is brought in via ticket sales and views?

Acheiving our Dreams

My Pappa's dream job is to be a PH (professional hunter) in South Africa (which is where he comes from).
Six ways I could support him in achieving this job would be:
1. Help raise money for all of us to move to South Africa.
2. Go out hunting with him so he could practice taking people out more.
3. Ask him lots of questions about South Africa to make sure he knows how to answer tourists.
4. Get him to teach me how to be a more accurate shot so he can help the people he takes out.
5. Research then ask him lots of questions about different animals.
6. Learn about dangerous things so he would feel like we'd be safe over there.

I would not like to live in a Tiny House one day because I would like a bigger house that has more room for things such as an indoor sports area (like Owen Farrell's) for when it rains and I don't want to go out.

I do think the Tiny Houses look cool and are a great idea for the housing crisis so more people can afford to own a home. I think this one looks quite nice:

If Kate Sheppard were to be replaced on the NZ $10 note I think a good replacement would be Nancy Wake. I think she would be a great figure because she was really brave, she joined the French Resistance Movement helping the Allies and even killed a Nazi soldier with her bare hands. She was the most wanted woman of the Gestapo with a 5 million franc price on her head.

School Strike for Climate

Three facts I have learned from the School Strike for Climate Australia website are:

  • They have 3 demands which are 1. No new coal, oil and gas products 2. 100% renewable energy generation and exports by 2030 and 3. Fund a just transition and job creation for all fossil fuel workers and communities
  • They are students at school striking from school to try and get attention for their cause.
  • They haven't got any ideas how to achieve their demands.

SLJ - Belle of the Ball

The book I have chosen is Return of the Temauji which is the 8th book in the Brotherband series. The book is by Australian writer John Flanagan. I like it because it is very entertaining and interesting. Once I have started reading it I find it very hard to stop.

The book is about a crew of Skandians (Vikings) trying to fight off a giant army from crossing the border. The problem is they don't know where they are going to cross and there are only 10 of the Herons (plus a dog) trying to stop thousands of Temauji - how will they do it?

Obama got the Nobel prize for making the connections between Americans and civilians of other countries. He even made more Americans connected. And he ensured that many counties would work with America. He also made attempts to make the world nuclear free. And ended the Iraq war by withdrawing American troops from Iraq.

SLJ - Through Careful Observation

The Photo that I have chosen has: Silver stars among the blue swirly night sky a town below mountains in the distance. A tower rising from the town, grass covering part of the sky that is blue. Swirls in torrents in front of the mountains.

This is what I have seen in the picture I have chosen

SLJ - Caine's Arcade

My favorite game to play is Cricket because it is very fun because it is a game that you can have many abilities to play. It is fun and is very exciting if a team needs a certain amount of runs to win or if you take a wicket. It can take a long time but it uses a lot of thinking and technical abilities. It doesn't require a certain size like you can be 6'8 like Stuart Broad or be 5'8 like Harold Larwood because they both are amazingly fast bowlers (Broad Bowls at 137.6 km an hour on average average and Larwood bowled at 163.2 km an hour on average.) so you can be any size to play it. You also don't need to be fast or slow these are some of the reasons cricket is my favorite game. I have been playing Cricket for 8 years. You play cricket by one person (The Bowler) bowling a 5.5 ounce wooden ball down the bouncy 22 meter strip known as the crease. He bowls it down to the wickets 3 wooden 1.05 meter poles. If it hits them the wickets will move and the bails (Two wooden sticks) will fall off and when the bails fall off he is out. But in front of the wickets is a batsman wearing: Cricket Gloves, Helmet and pads they are holding a bat. With the bat they try and hit the ball and get runs if one of the 10 fielders catches it on the full the batsman is out.

SLJ - Influencers

My YouTube channel would probably have many themes some would be guitar tutorials to play songs by Ed Sheeran and many others. That would be very fun and it would also help other people with playing the song that I was teaching some of the videos would be of me doing sports things like teaching how to to do skills in soccer and stuff like that. The last theme that I would do would be of me playing games like Madden, FIFA and NBA 2K. Youtubers that I like and are subscribed to are The F2, CaniSportsDude Perfect and KOT4Q.
